Textual Detritus – McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Firstly, it's not pamphlet sized. McCarthy seems, for the most part, to deliver a chaotic, almost high-modernist metaphysic of chance and naked force (see in particular No Country for Old Men or Blood Meridian). This one is Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. The judges gun in the novel Blood Meridian has the inspription Et In Arcadia Ego. The Kid is a Tennesseean who cannot read nor write and is described as, "not big but he has big wrists, big hands. To even those who know him, the Judge seems more than a little supernatural and fully out of place in most situations. The child's face is curiously untouched behind the scars, the eyes oddly innocent. MILLER'S CROSSING might as well be about a different .. In Cormac Mccarthy's 1985 book Blood Meridian, Judge Holden rides along with a group of border scalp hunters, fighting renegade Indians for a price. BLOOD SIMPLE and RAISING ARIZONA don't take place on the same planets. I've read and loved two other books by McCarthy, I had high expectations, but Blood Meridian was impossible for me to get into. Also, I'd suggest one look up Blood Meridian's wikipedia entry, although I'd skip the "Plot Summary" segment as it's full of spoilers. This map of the geographic area covered in Blood Meridian is the latest in bibioklept's series of entries celebrating the 25th anniversary reissue of what is arguably Cormac McCarthy's best novel.
